On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, a delegation from the Emirates Schools Establishment (ESE) led by Her Excellency Ms. Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), visited JICE Headquarters in Tokyo.

The UAE Minister and her delegation had come to Japan for an inspection tour of Japanese educational institutions, and they took the opportunity to visit JICE to exchange views on the further development of cooperative relationship between ESE and JICE with President YOSHIDA and other JICE officials.

EESE is a federal government organization under the Ministry of Education that oversees public education in the UAE chaired by Her Excellency Ms. Al Amiri. Currently,  Japanese language classes are offered at three public secondary schools under ESE. Responding to the request from the Ministry of Education, JICE has been cooperating to introduce Japanese language classes at the target schools since 2019.

Exchange of opinions between JICE officials and the ESE delegation

JICE President YOSHIDA welcomed the delegation by expressing his sincere wish to  continue and enhance the cooperative relationship between the two institutions. The  delegation also received an explanation about organizational structure of JICE and JICE's education and human resources development projects in the UAE.

Minister Al Amiri expressed her appreciation for JICE's cooperation and expressed her desire to expand the number of schools providing Japanese language education in the  UAE. She also revealed her plan to send UAE high school students to Japan to give them  opportunities to learn Japanese and experience Japanese culture. The two parties agreed  to hold concrete discussions on this plan moving forward.

As shown in this collaboration, JICE will be committed to cooperate with the relevant  organizations in the UAE and engage in various activities to cement the friendly  relationship between the UAE and Japan.
